‘Being quick to listen’ 

developing listening skills for pastoral care

We are pleased to host this equipping event on Sunday afternoons.

The course is open to all involved with some form of pastoral care and wish further to develop their ability to listen at depth.

The interactive course is led by Dr Neil Suggett CBE (Leadership Coach and Church Elder) & Mrs Judith Suggett (Pastoral Carer and ‘Bereavement Journey’ Facilitator)


Dates: March 10th, April 14th, May 12th and June 2nd 2019

Time: 5 - 6.30PM

Outline of the programme

Session One – Listening for understanding

  • Listening to God, to others and to self
  • We show our quality of care by the way we listen
  • The four levels of listening
  • Listening practice and inter-sessional task

Session Two – Questioning for depth

  • Asking the right question at the right time
  • Client-centred questions – following interest
  • Questioning for depth and breadth
  • Questioning practice and inter-sessional task

Session Three – Providing support and challenge

  • The importance of judgement calls
  • Pastoral listening and questioning
  • The balance of support and challenge
  • Pastoral conversations and inter-sessional task

Session Four – The pastoral carer

  • Speaker, listener and the Holy Spirit
  • The desire to help and the needs of the client
  • Caring for the carer
  • Learning from experience


Suggested donation £5/session
