New Decade

“Forget the former things;

Do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

Isa 43:18-19

New Decade New Hope

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be, or at least needed handling with care according to Isaiah, God’s messenger to destitute, exilic nation of Israel languishing in Babylon. His message was “Don’t escape into the past; nor seek to escape from the past, open your eyes and look to see what is now to occur”.  Before their very eyes God created new hope, a way back home. There came a benign ruler who returned the ethnically cleansed to their own land overthrowing the seemingly indomitable enemy – the Israelites were going home.

I imagine what those homecoming people would say is “It’s never hopeless with God”, even though it may seem it from both past experiences and the present realities of life. The good news is that the past need not determine our future God is active in our present time doing a new, better, thing.Enthralled to powerful forces such news may have been hard to hear or believe but as time unfolded it was found to be true.

And their truth is ours for God does not change; If the times you live in seem to be gloomy and uncertain may I encourage you to put your hope & trust in God who says “behold I am coming to make all things new” – and that can include yourself and your circumstances if you so choose.

A prayer of Thanksgiving and trust as we enter the 20's

Everlasting God,

We place our days within your care.

We trust and praise you for your faithfulness in the past, and your constant care.

We put ourselves into your keeping,

to guard and to guide us this day and every day;

and we offer our lives to you through Jesus Christ,

your eternal son our Saviour.

Amen

May you know a hope filled decade.
